sudo apt-get install minitube
Then launch it using
If that works, you are lucky. You don’t need to read further.
(Note: You can open the app with these steps but the playback does not work. My primary goal was to download them I was able to bring up the app and download the videos.)
sudo apt-get install libqtgui4 libqt4-xml libqt4-network libqt4-dbus phonon-backend-vlc
sudo dpkg -i libphonon4_4.7.0really4.6.0-0ubuntu2_i386.deb
minitube is great desktop program to watch youtube. It is very easy to install it on windows but on Linux(LinuxMint|Ubuntu) and especially 64-bit linux versions it is a pain, as minitube is available only in 32-bit for linux.
One of the key requirements is is libphonon4. If you try sudo apt-get install libphonon4 it installs a 64 bit version of the library. ./minitube gives an error saying it is not able to find libphonon4.so.4.
The trick is download and install the i386 ( 32-bit) library. I don’t know how to install 32 bit libraries directly with sudo apt-get . So I downloaded the 32 version from
and installed it using dpkg -i.
You can also click on the .deb package but it says the library is already installed. You have to ignore the error and click on install.
Note: I think these steps should work fine for Ubuntu 13 -64 bit version as well.
